Julia Battistin
Boston based pop singer/songrwriter
A few months ago, I was able to live through one of my wildest dreams. I got to share the stage with my biggest inspiration and idol, the amazing singer/songwriter, Sara Bareilles. She has been my idol since I was a little girl and is one of the main reasons I started performing and writing music. Her honesty, passion, and hard work that she puts into her music has inspired me every day. Thanks to Berklee Songwriting Chair, Bonnie Hayes, who let me tag along, I was able to meet Sara at a private event/show. Sara was one of the most kind and down-to-earth people I have ever met and after we got to talking for just a few minutes, she made me feel like I was talking to one of my good friends. I told her that I cover her song, “Manhattan” all the time and she invited me up to sing and play it with her for the encore of her show! I was beyond nervous to sing not only in front of my biggest idol, but also in front of her cheering fans. As scared as I was, Sara made every moment of it enjoyable and encouraged me every step of the way. Even when I made mistakes or couldn’t find my voice at times, she still cheered me on and had the audience rooting for me with her outstanding personality and easy-going attitude. She genuinely wanted me to succeed and made it such an enjoyable and inspiring experience for everyone. It’s so nice to have such a strong, positive, and talented woman like Sara in the industry to look up to.
Here’s the video of the performance and an article I wrote about the whole experience.
